Summerville ROCKS! Thanks The Community

Due to the efforts of many community members, a very successful 2014 Summerville ROCKS! auction was held Saturday, May 31, at the Miler/Summerville Country Club. It brought out nearly 150 guests and resulted in the sale of 48 rocking chairs, each painted and/or decorated by local artists and artisans.
The event was sponsored by the Cultural Arts Alliance of Greater Summerville to benefit the newly created Larry Barnfield Fine Arts Scholarship. Scholarship criteria and applications will be made available to high school students this fall.

Rocking Chair Live Auction and Barbeque Tickets on Sale Now!

Did you hear that we have 48 chairs spread all over town?  They were artistically decorated by 41 local residents with an additional 5 chairs done by student members of the National Junior Art Society at Rollings Middle School of the Arts.  Have you stopped by Town Hall to see the 13 Chairs exhibited there?  Did you hear that those chairs traveled to Car Pros Plaza as a highlight of the Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours?  We’ve heard there was spirited discussion as to who would buy several of the chairs!  Hundreds of people, locals and tourists, have taken maps and made a game out of seeing how many chairs they can see.

The next step in the project is the fun-filled Auction/Barbeque to be held at Summerville Country Club on May 31 beginning with the reception and cash bar at 6:00pm.  The buffet dinner will be served beginning at 6:30.  Our professional auctioneer, will keep the bidding lively starting at 7:30.  Be sure to get your bidder number when you check in.  Remember, we are funding the Larry Barnfield Arts Scholarship with the proceeds of the auction. We intend to divide the proceeds of the barbeque event among the local non-profits for which chairs were sponsored.
